About o-rings, kits & bonded seals
O-rings are the most common seal of all: a rubber ring squeezed in a groove to seal static joints and slow-moving parts. We stock O-rings in nitrile (NBR), Viton (FKM), silicone, EPDM, neoprene and PU, boxed O-ring kits for maintenance stores, and Dowty (bonded) seals for hydraulic fittings.
O-rings are sized by inside diameter × cross-section, for example 20 × 2.5 mm. Tell us the size, the fluid and the temperature, and we'll suggest the right material.

How is an O-ring measured?
By its inside diameter (ID) and its cross-section (thickness), both in millimetres. Measure the ring unstretched, or measure the groove it fits in.
Which O-ring material should I use?
Nitrile for oils, greases and water; Viton for high temperatures, fuels and many chemicals; EPDM for water and steam but not oil; silicone for food use and very high or low temperatures.
What is a Dowty seal?
A Dowty seal, or bonded seal, is a steel washer with a rubber ring bonded inside it. It seals threaded hydraulic ports, banjo bolts and drain plugs, and is chosen by thread size.
