About pneumatic seals

Pneumatic seals are made for compressed air: low-friction lips that let cylinders move smoothly at normal air pressure, with or without lubrication. We supply piston and rod seals, complete pistons, cushion seals, buffer rings and magnetic piston seals for air cylinders and valves.

Tell us the cylinder bore and rod diameter, or the cylinder's make and model, and we'll find the matching seal or complete piston.

Common questions

Can I use a hydraulic seal in an air cylinder?

Usually not. Hydraulic seals are stiffer and grip harder, so an air cylinder fitted with them moves jerkily and wears faster. Pneumatic seals have softer, low-friction lips designed for air pressure.

What is a cushion seal?

A cushion seal traps a little air at the end of the stroke so the piston slows down instead of hitting the end cap. It protects the cylinder and reduces noise on fast-moving machines.

What is a magnetic piston seal for?

It carries a magnet in the piston so reed switches or sensors on the outside of the cylinder can detect where the piston is.
