A backing ring supports a soft seal in its groove so it cannot be squeezed into the gap under pressure. This one is made in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), tough and wear resistant.
It is rated for pressures up to 1.6 MPa (16 bar) and temperatures from −25 °C to +200 °C, at sliding speeds up to 1 m/s.
