A wiper sits outside the rod seal and scrapes dirt and water off the rod as it retracts. This one is made in polyurethane (PU), which resists wear and extrusion far better than rubber.

It is rated for temperatures from −35 °C to +100 °C, at sliding speeds up to 1 m/s.
